Timeline Headline

1957

Marvis B. Roberts and several other Alachua County, Florida employees of the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) each put up $5 to give Florida USDA Federal Credit Union its first $50 in assets.

1970s

Our field of membership was expanded to serve all federal employees in Alachua County, Florida, including employees of the newly built Veterans Administration Medical Center. The Federal Government Employees Credit Union in Lake City, Florida, was merged into then Florida USDA Federal Credit Union. This expanded our field of membership to also include federal employees in Columbia County, Florida.

1988

Under new provisions from the National Credit Union Administration (NCUA), the credit union started adding membership groups to our field of membership. All members of each individual membership group had to have a common bond among themselves.

1993

The name was changed to SunState Federal Credit Union because we no longer just served USDA employees. This name was chosen to reflect our evolution into a major financial resource for the communities and members we now serve.

1995

Under new NCUA guidelines regarding underserved populations, SunState Federal Credit Union expanded its field of membership to include people who lived, worked, worshiped or attended school in the low income communities of Dixie, Gilchrist, and Levy Counties, Florida.

1999

SunState Federal Credit Union converted from an occupational-based federal charter, to a community-based federal charter, serving anyone who lived, worked, worshiped or attended school in Alachua, Columbia, Dixie, Gilchrist, or Levy County, Florida.

2018

SunState FederalCredit Union’s community-based field of membership was expanded to also include Hamilton, Lafayette, Suwannee and Union Counties. Field of membership

2019

SunState Federal Credit Union grew to more than $491 million in assets, with more than 37,700 members.

2021

SunState Federal Credit Union converted to a State Charter and became Radiant Credit Union and expanded its field of membership to 16 counties including Alachua, Bradford, Citrus, Clay, Columbia, Dixie, Gilchrist, Hamilton, Lafayette, Lake, Levy, Marion, Putnam, St. Johns, Suwannee, and Union in Florida. 

2022

Radiant Credit Union grew to more than $703 million in assets, with more than 42,300 members.

2023

Radiant Credit Union opened its first branch location in Old Town, Florida, and began the process of moving the Jonesville branch into a brand new Publix shopping center in Newberry, with expected completion in 2025

2024

Radiant Credit Union grew to over 45,000 members, opened our first branch in Ocala, Florida, and expanded our field of membership to six new counties – Baker, Flagler, Hernando, Nassau, Sumter, and Volusia – for a total of 22 counties.
